What the amenity fee actually buys

For roughly $199 a month (it rises each year with CPI), the amenity fee is arguably the best value in the community — but it helps to know exactly what's included versus what costs extra. Included with no per-use charge: free executive golf, all the pools, 100+ recreation centers, pickleball, tennis, softball, bocce, horseshoes, billiards and bowling, the free nightly entertainment, and access to the 2,700+ resident clubs. Extra: green fees on the championship golf courses, the Executive Golf Trail Pass if you want to ride your own cart on the executive courses, Fit Club gym memberships, and materials or fees for some classes and activities. Even casual users typically get their money's worth from the executive golf and pools alone.

Golf — how it really works

Golf is the headline amenity, and the current official roster names 64 courses: 49 executive and 15 championship. The executive courses are shorter nine-hole layouts, primarily par 3, and resident green fees are included with the amenity fee. Championship golf carries a per-round green fee; resident country-club membership has no initiation fee, dues or minimum. One catch worth budgeting for: riding a golf car on the executive trail requires a trail fee, while championship courses do not add a separate personal golf-car charge.

Recreation centers & pools

The recreation network is tiered. Neighborhood and village recreation centers sit close to home for pools and casual gatherings, while the larger regional recreation centers host the bigger sports, arts, meeting, and club spaces — 100+ centers in all. Dedicated Fit Club gym access is a paid membership at select locations, not a blanket amenity-fee inclusion. Pools come in three flavors: family pools (all ages — where visiting grandkids go), sports pools (lap lanes and water volleyball), and adult pools (quieter, 30+/leisure). The pool and recreation-center network is included, and there are hundreds of pools across the community, so one is almost always close. Bring your resident ID card to any facility.

Beyond golf: pickleball, tennis & sports

The Villages is one of the country's pickleball capitals, with hundreds of courts and a large dedicated 40,000-square-foot facility, plus organized play for every skill level. Add tennis (including Har-Tru clay), softball leagues with real followings, bocce, horseshoes, shuffleboard, bowling lanes, and billiard rooms — all covered by the amenity fee with no per-use charge. Whatever your sport, there's almost certainly a court, a league, and a group already playing it here.

The 2,700+ club ecosystem — and how to join or start one

The clubs are the real engine of Villages social life — more than 2,700 of them, covering everything from pickleball and model railroading to dancing, veterans' groups, crafts, faith, travel, and cards. Joining is usually as simple as showing up: find clubs and meeting times in the Recreation News and the district's activity calendars, then just go. And if your interest isn't represented, you can start it — residents register new groups as Resident Lifestyle Volunteer Groups through the district. The abundance is the point: your social life here is limited mainly by how much you show up.

Free entertainment, every night

Every town square hosts free live music nightly — 365 nights a year — with a different vibe at each (see Dining for the by-square rundown). It's the easiest, lowest-commitment way to plug in: drive the cart over, catch a band, dance if you like, and you've had a night out for the cost of nothing. For many residents, nightly entertainment is the single most-used amenity of all.

Getting plugged in — and an honest note

The amenities are extraordinary value, but they don't socialize you automatically — the residents who thrive here are the ones who show up. A simple newcomer playbook: pick two or three clubs from the Recreation News and attend within your first month, make the nightly square entertainment a weekly habit, and use the pool nearest you as your default hangout. The flip side of the honest note (see Lifestyle & Amenities): this go-go-go, activity-saturated life genuinely isn't for everyone, and it rewards extroverts and joiners.
